When getting new curtains or even making new curtains for yourself, undoubtedly the most important aspect of the equation is executing the proper measurements. If proper measurements are not made the effort in getting new curtains will be utterly futile and a complete waste of time. Thus, before doing anything, one should always keep in mind to get exact measurements of the window they are putting the curtains in.
The first thing one should do when measuring is determi9ning whether they want the curtains to cover the inside or the outside casing mount. The inside casing mount is essentially the window and its frame that is located inside the concave section of the window casing. The outside casing is the parameter of the entire structure.
Upon deciding which part of the casing one wants to cover, they need to compile the proper tools needed to measure the window. This step requires a basic steel measuring tape, a pen, and a piece of paper. Before actually measuring an applicable window one needs to keep a few things in mind. First, when measuring the window, one should always round a number up to the nearest 1/4 inch. Doing so will allow you to have a minimal amount of overhang rather than purchasing a curtain that is to short. The second thing one should keep in mind is that when measuring the length for an outside window casing, you should always make the measurement 3 inches longer than the actual casing. This should be done in order to have an overhang on the anterior width of the window.
After compiling the proper tools and deciding which casing they want to have covered, one should bo about obtaining both the length and width of window(s). This needs to done by obtaining three different measurements. The first measurement one should obtain is the maximum width of the applicable frame. Secondly one should record the middle width, and lastly one should take not of the maximum width. Doing this will ensure that you have measured the entire window in case it has varying width points of reference. Upon recording the width of the window one needs to measure the length. His should be done in the same three point method that was used on obtaining the width. Thus, one needs to record the length of the left-hand side of the window, the middle of the window, and the right-hand side of the window.
Upon getting precise calculations of the varying lengths and widths of a particular window, one should then record the exact information they have obtained on a piece of paper. Doing this rather than just trying to memorize the measurements will ensure that you have an exact point of reference. Obviously one should take this piece of paper with them to the store and provide the measurements to an employee that will guide you in selecting the proper curtain.
